Join State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company-a proud Fortune 50 leader with a legacy of excellence since 1922-as we seek a dynamic and motivated attorney to lead the company’s government relations across multiple states. This State Counsel position is based in our Sacramento, CA Legislative/Regulatory office, part of the Corporate Law Division of State Farm’s Law Department.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

• Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school with outstanding academic credentials.
• Active law license in at least one state and in good standing with the bar.
• Ability to obtain permission to practice law in California as a Registered In-House Counsel (RIHC) if not already licensed in California.
• Preferred candidate would have a minimum 5 years’ experience in one or more of the following:
  • government relations
  • legislative drafting/advocacy
  • regulatory law
• A proactive, preventative approach to lawyering, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality legal advice.
• Demonstrated agility in learning new areas and a passion for continuous professional growth.
• Proven team player who excels in collaborating with diverse stakeholders in complex, fast-paced environments.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. immediately; sponsorship is not available.

Additional Details:

• This Sacramento-based role requires periodic travel to assigned states and occasionally to Bloomington, IL.
• Outside legal practice is not permitted, except authorized pro bono work. New hires must cease all outside legal work prior to joining.
• Flexibility to work irregular hours as needed given workload and nature of the responsibilities.

Because work-life balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!

• Potential starting salary range: $151,000.00 – $220,000.00
• • Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
  • High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
• Potential yearly incentive pay up to 30% of base salary
