About IDEA Public Schools :
At IDEA Public Schools, we believe in college for ALL and we are committed to ensuring that all our students graduate from college. IDEA was founded in 2000 as a single school with 150 students in the Rio Grande Valley. When interest exceeded building capacity, to meet the demands, IDEA’s co-founders committed to serving more students in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and beyond. We now serve over 65,000 students across Texas and Louisiana. Since 2000, IDEA Public Schools has grown from a school of 150 students in Donna, TX to the fastest- growing family of tuition-free, public charter schools in the United States. In 2020, we will grow to 8 schools serving El Paso and Socorro.
IDEA Flex Special Education Teachers are full time, additional Special Education teaching staff hired by IDEA Public Schools with the intent of eventually filling a permanent Special Education teaching role on a campus when an aligned vacancy arises. This is a TEMPORARY role for the 2021-22 academic school year from August to December. This allows IDEA to put a qualified Special Education teacher into the classroom immediately after a vacancy is determined and minimizes the number of days that students miss out on valuable instruction by a qualified teacher.
Once hired by IDEA, our Flex Special Education Teachers are assigned to a “home-campus” to fulfill various educator responsibilities as outlined below. When a permanent Special Education teaching vacancy arises either at the “home-campus” or other campuses in the region, our Flex Special Education teachers participate in a matching interview with a campus leadership team for a permanent teaching placement. Vacancies may arise before or after the start of school year.
All I DEA Special Education teachers are responsible for the achievement and support of critical students. Special education teachers work with students who have a wide range of learning, cognitive, emotional, and physical disabilities. They teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, to students with gaps of 2 or more years. The main goal is to close that gap by 2 years in just one school year. The IDEA Special Education teacher provides the crucial bridge between home and school for our highest need students and their families.
IDEA teachers set ambitious goals for student achievement and invest students and families in accomplishing them; create a powerful learning environment; plan and deliver purposeful, rigorous instruction; assess for mastery and track student progress toward goals; analyze data to intervene and adjust instruction; and seek excellence as an educator and an IDEA team member.
