JOB SUMMARY
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
Working under general technical guidance, an Installation Technician must have knowledge of skilled trades (i.e
electrical, structural, carpentry and / or plumbing assemblies) with preference given to those with a higher skill level in electrical systems
The technician will be performing work such as installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, modifying, construction and testing
Employee will be responsible for performing the following functions/duties:
• Performs electrical, HVAC and / or carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, repair, remodeling and alteration of building structures and facilities according to work orders or verbal instructions by using hand and power tools to install and repair systems, buildings and associated structures
• Examine blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to locate and diagnose / troubleshoot faults / issues
• Practices preventative maintenance of tools and equipment by performing spot checks of equipment to determine their working condition, oiling moving parts, cleaning and servicing tools and equipment as directed or specified in the operator’s manual and returning damaged tools and equipment for repair or replacement
• Preference will be given to those who can:
• Install, maintain or repair any variety of electrical equipment for the generation, distribution or utilization of electric energy
• Design, troubleshoot, test, implement and preventively maintain electrical systems ranging from 50HZ – 400 HZ
• Identify and resolve technical issues related to electrical components, wiring diagrams and schematics
• Always comply with codes and customer requirements
• Assist, instruct and/or provide work direction to lower-level technicians
• Perform other job-related duties, as required
REQUIREMENTS – EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE An associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college; or technical schooling with courses in related areas; or a military equivalent and a minimum of three to seven years of hands-on experience are required for this position
In addition, an Installation Technician must possess the following qualifications:
• Certified electrician’s license (preferred)
• Comprehensive knowledge in building / electrical trades
• Demonstrated expertise in electronic, electro-mechanical, and computer systems and the test equipment used to maintain and repair equipment
• Working knowledge of a second trade either through on the job training or continuing education
• Possess a working knowledge of the technical terminology and language structure related to a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment / systems supported by the work unit
• Must have basic computer operating skills and knowledge of applications, software and database usage sufficient to maintain records and files
• Must have good verbal & written communication skills
• Required to qualify for and maintain a government security clearance
• Must have a valid, current state-issued driver’s license (CDL preferred)
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Each employee must read, understand, and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to their job
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employee will be required to work some overtime, drive to remote locations (long drive times) on paved and dirt roads, and occasional work over-night assignments
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors
Outdoor duties may be performed on even or uneven surfaces, which may be dry or wet
Grease or oil may be found on working surfaces
Outdoor duties may be performed in extreme weather conditions (hot and cold)
Climbing stairs, ladders, towers (must be comfortable working at heights), and scaffolds, and the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs, (anything heavier requires two or more people or mechanical assistance) are required
A government vehicle is used daily
