DEFINITION

The Citterio USA Lab Technician Assistant works to assist in preparing samples for Listeria and Salmonella testing to ensure the safety and quality of our products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

NOTE: An employee assigned to this title shall perform a majority, but may not perform all, of the duties listed in this job description. Conversely, minor level duties performed on the job may not be listed.

• Collect and prepare samples from various stages of the meat production process for Listeria and Salmonella testing.
• Implement and monitor production schedules to meet customer orders and company objectives.
• Assist the lab technician and supervisor with routine laboratory tasks, including sample labeling, documentation, and data entry.
• Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly cleaned, maintained, and calibrated according to standard operating procedures.
• Follow strict safety and sanitation protocols to prevent contamination and ensure accurate test results.
• Maintain accurate records of all sample preparations and test results, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Monitor and manage inventory levels of laboratory supplies and reagents, reporting any shortages to the supervisor.
• Work closely with production and quality control teams to ensure timely and efficient sample collection and testing.
• Promote and enforce a culture of safety in the workplace.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, including OSHA and USDA standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to listen effectively, respond appropriately and maintain mutual comfort level while relating to a diverse workforce.
• Must have good attendance.
• Other job duties as necessary.

• Basic understanding of microbiology and food safety principles.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

• Good communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office)
• Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information which may be proprietary to Citterio USA.

• Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Completion of a high school, or general equivalency diploma; and,
• Previous experience in a laboratory setting or food production environment is a plus

• The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

• WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This role requires working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to cold temperatures and raw meat products. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• The noise level in the work environment can be moderate or loud when entering the plant.
• Employees are required to wear proper food safe, steel toe shoes, hair net and beard net, nitrile gloves, frock, bump cap, hat, and proper hearing protection while working in certain areas.
