NC Workers Compensation Paralegal
Job Description:
Our client (law firm) seeks a Workers Compensation Paralegal to assists attorneys and legal staff in their day to day work, enhances attorney effectiveness by providing legal knowledge and support, and represents the attorney and firm to clients, legal professionals, and other matter related individuals. This individual further supports the attorney by preparing, reviewing, and maintaining legal documents, reports, and communication. performing research. and preparing for upcoming events, including hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials. This is a full time (40 hours/week) role, in office, Raleigh, NC 27607 Monday ? Friday with possibility of being hybrid after 90 days.
Responsibilities:
Record daily billable time in time and billing system.
Set up new files, including preparation of conflict worksheet (including review of new file contents (IC forms, medical records, carrier notes, and investigative material) for names and relationships of parties and communication with attorney(s
Draft correspondence and case status reports.
Draft IC Forms, including Form 24 Application to Terminate Benefits.
Draft pleadings, including motions, deposition notices, orders, requests for extensions of time, responses, affidavits, and other IC filings.
Draft discovery requests and responses, including responsive documents pursuant to discovery or Rule 607 request.
Draft Designation of Mediator form.
Draft Pre-Trial Agreements.
Draft Settlement Agreements and Releases.
Communicate with clients and insureds regarding discovery responses, depositions, mediation, etc.
Communicate with opposing counsel, co counsel, clients, insureds, expert witnesses, Industrial Commission, and others, to facilitate progress of cases.
Locate, contact and/or interview parties, witnesses, and experts.
Prepare information to be provided to experts, including pleadings, demographics, and medical records, and maintain a record of the same.
Prepare medical, event and plaintiff personnel file chronologies.
Prepare materials for meetings, hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials, including preparation of exhibits, power point presentations, notebooks, etc.
Prepare witness and exhibit lists, subpoenas and contact witnesses.
Possible preparation of index of pleadings, discovery, and other file materials (including medical records if not preparing chronology).
Possible scheduling of meetings, hearings, depositions, mediations, etc., and calendar same.
Summarize depositions.
Summarize discovery responses from other parties.
Organize, analyze, and maintain case file, including documents, discovery, pleadings, medical records, and trial notebooks.
Perform online research regarding criminal record, driving record, and civil suit histories.
Perform online social media research.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor degree or higher from a 4 year college or university, or
Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited paralegal program, or
At least 10 years of experience working as a paralegal.
Must have NC workers compensation defense experience.
Prior subrogation (back pay on insurance claims) experience is preferred.

Qualifications:
Minimum typing speed of 50 wpm
Aspire to record 100 or more billable hours per month.
Ability to provide paralegal support for two or more attorneys.
Prior North Carolina Workers Comp Paralegal experience is Required.
Working knowledge or familiarity with NC Industrial Commission
Knowledge of document management, billing, docketing, and eDiscovery legal software is helpful.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Word
Excellent client service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact well with and respond to the needs of all levels of individuals.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
Highly organized with attention to details, including the ability to own and prioritize all aspects of the position and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
Effectively manage and maintain confidential information.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently, or as part of a team, using initiative in all aspects of assignments.
Ability to read and absorb complex information quickly and accurately.
Consistent and timely attendance 5 days a week Monday thru Friday (unless preapproved or modified schedule)
