Are you an experienced internal communications professional with a passion for communication and change management? Are you passionate about making a difference? Are you excited about the opportunity to work with smart and talented individuals and interested in writing, editing, and producing engaging content for internal audiences? Can you commit a minimum of 10-15 hours a week, working remotely on your own schedule with our remote team?

The nonprofit news organization WhoWhatWhy is looking for an Internal Communications & Change Manager who is a curious, intuitive, and self-motivated communications professional to join our Internal Communications and Change Management team. This individual will play a key role in developing and implementing a communications strategy, and be responsible for helping to define and implement communications internally using a variety of delivery platforms, in partnership with other senior operations managers and executive leaders.

Because we’re straight to the point, we make clear that, as a nonprofit with a very limited budget that accepts no advertising, we are staffed principally by volunteers – skilled volunteers. However, we do have big ambitions, which is why we’re seeking an experienced Internal Operations Communications & Change Manager who will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and effective communication within the entire organization. Responsibilities

• Create and implement communication plans for internal projects
• Develop and distribute organization-wide communication and announcements
• Point of contact to review all internal communications to ensure consistency of messaging and alignment with defined institutional objectives (i.e. notifications, changes to processes, events and candidate communications from HR
• Partner with Slack administrator for effective communication of information
• Partner with IT to understand any new technologies or technology topics that require communication
• Align with the Intranet team to ensure new information is accessible and communicated to the WhoWhatWhy organization as appropriate
• Partner with Human Resources for communication of policy and procedural information
• Partner with external communications to ensure consistency in messaging
• Standardize forms to be used by the wider WhoWhatWhy organization
• Lead organization-wide change management activities for new technology, processes, culture and organization design changes
• Suggest new processes and policies for sustainability of the organization
• Identify communication channels to promote best practices within the organization
• Evaluate the risk of change and provide actionable guidelines to reduce the impact on team members
• Manage and oversee operations of technical writers involved in process & procedure documentation
• Review technical manuals and material for completeness and accuracy as well as end-user understanding
• Identify and communicate latest technology and techniques used in internal communication
• Create training plans and materials
• Deliver training in a remote environment
• Partner with Public Relations and Marketing to identify ways to promote “Positive Commentary” on WhoWhatWhy internally

Qualifications

• Superior oral and written communication skills with an innate attention to detail
• 5+ years experience building robust communications programs and communicating organization-wide changes
• Ability to articulate a clear point of view on complicated issues in clear, concise communications to both senior management and team members
• Ability to be flexible and versatile in a breaking news environment and meet project deadlines
• Experience with managing multiple projects simultaneously
• 3+ years experience creating training material and leading training sessions
• Have a solid grasp of – and commitment to – our mission and vision
• Experience in the media industry/startup/nonprofits industry preferred

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule; we require a minimum commitment of 10-15 hours a week. (Though doing more is not discouraged!) Because our staff is spread throughout the world, we communicate mostly through Zoom, Slack (direct messaging system) and email, and team members are requested to be highly responsive in a timely manner.
