Northrop Grumman Maritime Systems seeks a versatile systems engineer lead to join the team to work on multiple ship navigation and control programs. These programs are for Integrated Bridge and Navigation Systems for the US Navy and Coast Guard. Specific responsibilities include: technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses. The navigation and controls systems engineer will be involved in the full lifecycle: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Some travel is required to the customer site. This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.The Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) Department at Northrop Grumman Maritime Systems located in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a candidate who is excited by the prospect of managing the engineering content of our programs. As a member of our collaborative management team you will join us in leading a dedicated and extremely talented group of professionals as we accomplish phenomenal work together.The SEIT Lead is the single point of contact for all aspects of engineering execution. The SEIT Lead responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Oversees and manages the engineering design, development of software, systems, and hardware engineering.
Drives the engineering process development, continuous improvement, and affordability initiatives within their programs.
Serves as the engineering project team liaison to program management, customers, operations, and other functional groups.
Manages risks and opportunities for all engineering scope.
Collaborates with all functional organizations to resolve engineering conflicts.
Communicates regularly with program management, customers, and engineering management.
Owns overall quality, technical, budget, and schedule responsibility for the engineering content of assigned programs.
The successful candidate will be well versed in the systems engineering discipline and have a keen interest in working in the maritime domain.Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 8 years’ experience; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
Demonstrated leadership experience.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Strong commitment to and understanding of the Systems Engineering process
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply varied technologies.
Ability to perform as liaison to the customer for all engineering efforts.
Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
9 years of demonstrated leadership experience
Experience as an IPT lead, functional lead, or leadership in the military
Program/Project Management experience
Experience managing an engineering team in an Agile or waterfall process using EVMS, IMS and/or other techniques
Current, active Secret clearance, or higher
Salary Range: 108400 – 162600
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
